Objectives

Vulnerable Street Kids (VSK) is aiming:

  • To help the street children and orphans in the area by addressing their basic needs for food, clothing, health and if possible residence. Ideally we would like to find Religious families who will foster a child. We have spoken with Maggie Cruse (was CMS Australia in Addis Ababa now runs her own Day Care organisation) and she is willing to partnership with us on this project. We have also made contact with the Government and are in the process of getting our NGO Charity  Registration number  in order to complete forms and comply with their requirements
  • To enable them go to school and/or provide teaching materials
  • To bring attitudinal change in policy makers, ethnic groups, religious leaders and community members so as to improve the legal and policy framework on child care.

The objectives of VSK Project are:

To start small and provide a home with a loving environment for five street children in the first year

To use the charity shop as a means of getting to know the local people, provide a service and some funds for the project

Specific objectives are:

To use a hundred square meter plot of land given by Pastor Gemetu in Norway to genarate income to fund the members adminstration cost of the Project.

Members of the community and children will farm the land to fund the Project.

Building up relationships with street children

Finding suitable, local parents willing to offer a home for a child

Conducting all necessary paper work to ensure the expectations of family, child and government are met.

Linking child to family and ensuring appropriate meetings and follow up, including using local social workers

Running the charity shop to provide funding for the project.

The impact of the VSK project is:

  • A number of children supported- it would be good to aim for 5-15 in the first year.
  • Community members volunteering or recruited  to help run the project
  • Improvement of  the children’s life quality based on feedback from the kids and members of the community
  • Restructure in place to run the  project effectively
  • The community in the target area will benefit from the project and experience a positive change in attitude.
